The first XOZ version was propelled by a 76mm sorbitol engine. The recovery system used a drogue chute at apogee with a cable cutter for deployment of the main parachute. The XOZ reached altitudes of approximately 2.6km.

The XOZ rocket was the first rocket to have a full array of motion sensors, including a 3D accelerometer,  3D gyro, 3D magnetometer, a high G sensor (100g), air pressure and temperature.
